How to hand-wash dishes

  • If you don’t often use enough dishes to fill a dishwasher or do not own one, hand washing is more efficient.
  • Soak heavily soiled or greasy dishes with soapy hot water.  Wash least soiled dishes while others soak.
  • Fill one sink with hot soapy water and one with cold rinse water—plug drain and do not leave water running.  Use rubber gloves as you scrub and rinse.  Dry on rack.
