Install a low-flow aerator on your bathroom sink faucet

  • Low Flow Aerators are small devices in our taps that control the flow of water. You can reduce your water usage significantly by exchanging your standardaerator for a low flow. Which aerators are low flow? Any aerator sized at 1.5 gpm (gallons per minute) or less.
  • We suggest the following for most lifestyles: 1.5 gpm in the kitchen tap; 1.0 in the bathroom taps. 0.5 for guest bathrooms, children’s bathrooms and other low traffic areas.
  • Want to save the most water?  Changing to a 0.5 gallons per minute aerator from a 2.2 gpm (standard) aerator can save one person up to 10 gallons of water per day for every five minutes of usage at that tap. (Studies show most of us don’t spend more than 5 minutes at the bathroom tap which is why we recommend installing theh 0.5 in the bathroom sink faucet.) If every Sarasota County resident switched, our county could save up to 1.25 billion gallons of water per year.
  • You can find them locally at home building supply stores and on the internet at AM Conservation Group
  • Donate to our campaign to provide one to every home in Sarasota County – through our Connect the Drops Facebook page.
